Georgia Tech AD gives vote of confidence to coach Geoff Collins

Geoff Collins will evidently be getting another year to turn things around at Georgia Tech.

Athletic director Todd Stansbury endorsed Collins’ ahead of the Yellow Jackets’ season-finale on Saturday vs. Georgia. Collins has a 9-24 record in nearly three seasons at the helm.

“Geoff Collins has created an incredible culture here,” Stansbury told 680 The Fan. “You can tell our kids are engaged. They’re not rolling over. They’re fighting to the last whistle and so many games this year we were either throwing into the end zone at the end of the year to put it into overtime or win the game. I feel good about the kind of young men he’s recruiting. There are things we have to do and we’re going to do what it takes to get our program to where we expect it to be”

Collins has won exactly three games in each of his first three seasons on the job. He replaced longtime coach Paul Johnson, who retired following the 2018 season. Collins then oversaw the transition from the triple option offense that Johnson leaned on.

The result has been more losing than winning. This will be Georgia Tech’s first three-year stretch without a bowl game since the mid 1990s.

If Georgia Tech was to make a change at head coach, it would cost the program approximately $12 million, according to The Athletic

. The buyout reportedly drops to $7.2 million after the 2022 season.

Georgia Tech is a 35-point underdog in its season finale vs. Georgia on Saturday. Kickoff is at 12 p.m. ET.
