Georgia Tech struggled to create offense in its 26-17 loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets’ defense struggled more than the final score might indicate. They gave up 491 yards and allowed the Hokies to have more than 35 minutes of time of possession.
Offensively, Georgia Tech was solid outside a pair of costly turnovers. The Yellow Jackets averaged 6.5 yards per play and totaled 183 rushing yards on the day. However, they had just one drive that lasted longer than 3:30.
After the game, third-year coach Geoff Collins took responsibility for the loss.
“I take all the blame,” Collins said, via AJC.com
. “I told the guys in [the locker room], ‘Stay together, we’ll get it fixed.’”
Collins also acknowledged that third downs were a big reason for this outcome. Virginia Tech went 9-of-19, while Georgia Tech converted just 3-of-12.
Georgia Tech has a tough schedule ahead. The Yellow Jackets still have to face Miami, Boston College, Notre Dame and Georgia. Kickoff vs. the Hurricanes next week is at 12:30 p.m. ET.
