Georgia Tech officially parts ways with coach Geoff Collins

Georgia Tech has officially parted ways with coach Geoff Collins.

The program made that announcement on Monday afternoon. His firing was first reported by multiple outlets on Sunday evening.

“I am grateful to Coach Collins for his hard work and commitment to our student athletes,”  Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the results of our football program have fallen short of what our loyal community, fans and athletes expect and deserve. We are committed to rebuilding the program and a coaching change is a necessary first step in that process.”

 

Georgia Tech has also parted ways with athletic director Todd Stansbury. He’s served in that role for the Yellow Jackets since 2016.

“Todd is and will always be an admired and respected member of our community. His dedication to the success of our student athletes and his love for Georgia Tech are admirable,” Cabrera said in a statement. “The challenges the athletic program has faced in recent years have grown to a point where we need to try a new approach, and that requires new leadership.”  

Collins went 10-28 in nearly 4 seasons as Georgia Tech’s head coach. He never won more than 3 games in a single campaign. He went 7-19 in ACC action, with his most recent loss coming to Clemson in Week 1.

The Yellow Jackets were largely uncompetitive against FBS opposition this season. They went 0-3 under Collins, losing by a combined score of 110-20 to Clemson, Ole Miss and UCF.

Georgia Tech last reached a bowl game in 2018, which was Paul Johnson’s final season.

The Yellow Jackets will face Pittsburgh in Week 5.
