Louisville has some work to do before signing day.

The Cardinals’ 2022 recruiting class currently ranks No. 86 nationally and dead last in the ACC, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. With the Early Signing Period just over two months away, Louisville has secured just six verbal commitments so far in this cycle.

Louisville’s most recent commitment came on August 30, 2021.

Miami is the only other team in the ACC to not have double digit commitments in the 2022 class so far. However, the Hurricanes have five blue-chip prospects while the Cardinals just have one.

Here’s a breakdown of Louisville’s recruiting class as it stands in Mid-October:

Class ranking: No. 14 ACC, No. 86 nationally

Total commits: 6

Blue chip commits (4-and-5-star prospects): 1

Highest-rated offensive recruit: 3-star QB Khalib Johnson | No. 649 overall | No. 38 QB | Pinson, Alabama

Highest-rated defensive recruit: 4-star EDGE Popeye Williams | No. 336 overall | No. 19 EDGE | Westfield, Indiana

Final thoughts: This is Scott Satterfield’s third full cycle since taking over in Louisville, and he’s yet to put together a top-35 recruiting class. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Louisville’s 2021 and 2020 recruiting classes finished at No. 39 and No. 42, respectively. That’s likely not enough to make an impact at Louisville — and being outside the top-80 certainly is not.
