Jeff Brohm reportedly holds on to key assistant despite multiple overtures from SEC

Jeff Brohm will need to fight off multiple SEC teams if he’s able to get Louisville back into a position of strength in college football. The first-year coach may have won his first battle in that regard, and it has to do with his coaching staff.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic and FOX Sports reported

a big recruiting win for Brohm. Texas A&M came after WRs coach Garrick McGee twice in the past couple of weeks and he ended up turning down the Aggies job offer both times to stay with the Cards.

McGee has an extensive coaching history and this is his second stint with the Cardinals.

He coached with Brohm last season at Purdue, but previously worked as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2014 and 2015 seasons under Bobby Petrino. With McGee coordinating the UofL offense, the Cards averaged 30 points per game in two seasons with a 17-9 overall record.

McGee left Louisville to become the offensive coordinator at Illinois, where he worked for 2 seasons. He also worked 2 years at Missouri and Florida before he joined Brohm’s staff at Purdue, according to his UofL bio.
