Lamar Jackson looking to showcase ‘more throwing’ in Baltimore’s new offense entering 2023

Lamar Jackson is entering the 2023 season with a fresh contract extension and a new-look offense with the Baltimore Ravens. With OTAs beginning around the NFL, Jackson shared his outlook for the new offense under OC Todd Monken.

Already, Jackson believes the offense will allow him to showcase “less running and more throwing” per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley

. Some of that is undoubtedly by design for Monken but it also relates to an improved wide receiver group that includes Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor and Zay Flowers joining the fold.

“Running can only take you so far,” Jackson said. “And I feel like with this new era of teams and offenses in the league, I feel like we need that. Coach Todd Monken, what I’m seeing in his offense so far, is looking tremendous.”

Jackson went on t

o point to an improved sense of freedom in Monken’s offense with the ability to change things at the line if desired. We’ll see how things play out on the field, but it sounds like Jackson is more than happy with how things are shaping up with the Ravens.

“You can change things when you want to,” Jackson said. “You see the defense, and it’s not looking right to you. You see some guy blitzing, you might want your receiver to do something different. Coach is giving you the free will to do whatever you want to.”
