Louisville has named Josh Heird its interim athletic director. The Louisville board of trustees made that announcement on Monday morning:
Heird replaces Vince Tyra, who stepped down from his position last week. Tyra had been rumored to be interested in Florida State’s athletic director position, but the Seminoles hired Michael Alford for that role last week.
Louisville’s leadership structure is currently influx. Louisville’s president, Neeli Bendapudi, also left last week for the same role at Penn State.
Heird has been Louisville’s deputy AD since 2019 and was with the Cardinals from 2007-16 as their assistant athletic director for championships and facilities. Inbetween, Heird served as an associate athletic director at Villanova.
Heird expressed confidence when speaking to the media on Monday morning.
If Heird gets the full-time job, he’ll be taking over a relatively stable athletic department. Louisville’s football and men’s basketball programs seem to be in good hands with Scott Satterfield and Chris Mack, respectively.
