Louisville will not have starting center Malik Williams on Tuesday night vs. North Carolina.
Williams has been suspended indefinitely for not “meeting Louisville’s standard,” interim coach Mike Pegues announced on his radio show on Monday.
“Bottom line, there’s a standard which all of our guys are expected to meet,” Pegues said. “Unfortunately Malik hasn’t met that standard at different times throughout the year.”
Pegues indicated it’s possible this will be just a one-game suspension.
“When and if Malik decides he wants to partake in that, he will be welcomed back with open arms,” Pegues said.
This will be a big loss for the Cardinals on Tuesday night. Williams is their leading scorer at 10.0 p
oints per game this season and is also averaging 8.7 rebounds per contest.
He also would have been a solid defensive option against North Carolina big man Armando Bacot. It’s likely Sydney Curry will get the start in Williams’ place.
Louisville has been in a state of flux for the last week after deciding to part ways with coach Chris Mack. The Cardinals are 11-10 overall this season and 5-6 in ACC play.
