Report: Louisville athletic director Vince Tyra steps down

In a surprising turn of events, Louisville athletic director Vince Tyra has reportedly issued his letter of resignation to the university.

That’s according to the Courier Journal’s Cameron Teague, who notes that his resignation is effective Dec. 8.

This move comes just hours after Louisville president Neeli Bendapudi announced she wa

s leaving to take the same job at Penn State. In recent days, there had been reports of growing unrest between Bendapudi and Tyra.

Tyra had even been connected to Florida State’s vacant athletic director position. However, as of Thursday morning, he was not expected to take the role.

This series of events leaves Louisville without a president or athletic director. Fortunately for the Cardinals, both their football and men’s basketball programs are relatively stable at the moment.

Still, it could be a difficult time for the university as it navigates significant uncertainty in key leadership positions.
