Miami offensive tackle Zion Nelson is entering 2022 with a significant amount of hype and expectations.

Nelson is a potential first-round draft pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. And according to ACC Network’s Eric Mac Lain, he is the second-best offensive tackle in the ACC.

Nelson trails only Clemson’s Jordan McFadden, who is a 3-year starter for the Tigers.

Nelson, of course, is also a 3-year starter for the Canes. He’s largely been Miami’s starting left tackle since his true freshman season in 2019. Now with Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal leading the way, Nelson could be ready to make another big step.

Nelson and McFadden were the offensive tackles named to the ACC’s preseason all-conference team last week.

Senior DJ Scaife is expected to start for the Canes at right tackle.

Pittsburgh’s Carter Warren, Syracuse’s Matthew Bergeron and Louisville’s Trevor Reid round out Mac Lain’s top 5 offensive tackles in the ACC.

Miami opens the 2022 season with Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 3.
