Tyler Van Dyke had a nightmare first half on Saturday night vs. NC State.

The Miami quarterback completed just 9-of-20 passes for 78 yards, 1 interception and 1 fumble. Both turnovers were incredibly costly — the interception kept Miami from scoring and the fumble handed NC State the ball in the red zone.

The result is Miami trailing NC State 10-6 going into the halftime break.

Van Dyke has struggled over the past couple of weeks. After missing the Clemson game due to injury, he threw for just 163 yards, 2 interceptions and 0 touchdowns last week vs. Virginia.

He’s now thrown 8 interceptions over his past 3.5 games. He threw three picks against Georgia Tech and then two apiece vs. North Carolina and Virginia.

During his tough half on Saturday night vs. the Wolfpack, Miami fans expressed their frustrations and asked for Van Dyke to be replaced with true freshman Emory Williams. Williams wasn’t efficient in his lone start of the year vs. Clemson, but he did lead the Canes to an overtime win in that ballgame.
