Cam Ward named makes list of newcomers ESPN analysts are ‘most excited’ to watch in 2024

Cam Ward and Miami are already facing high expectations for the 2024 season.

On Friday, Ward was named amongst a small group of transfers and true freshmen who ESPN analysts are “most excited” for going i

nto the 2024 campaign. Ward, a former standout at Washington State, spurned the NFL Draft in order to play one final season of college football at Miami.

ESPN’s Bill Connelly explained why he’s excited to watch Ward with the Hurricanes next season:

I think I’m most excited about the uncertainty here — I have absolutely no idea what to expect from Ward, who was beautifully prolific at Incarnate Word, then tantalizing but inconsistent in two years at Washington State. Ward seemed to want to go pro, declaring for the draft but apparently not getting the draft grade he was looking for, and that could make him particularly hungry for a big year. He’s a pretty accurate passer with a scrambling streak. Can he unlock what has been a very frustrating Miami offense? Or will he frustrate too?

In two seasons at Washington State, Ward threw 48 touchdown passes and 16 interceptions. He also completed 65.5% of his passes and averaged 7.1 yards per attempt. Ward is a

lso somewhat of a threat on the ground as he scored 13 rushing touchdowns across two seasons with the Cougars.

Miami will hope Ward can take it to the next level. He’s a big addition for the Hurricanes, who will be hoping to compete for an ACC crown and a spot in the College Football Playoff next season. Miami went 7-6 last season while battling major inconsistency and injury issues at the quarterback position.
