Miami lost a heartbreaker to Florida State on Saturday afternoon 31-28 despite leading for most of the fourth quarter.

FSU quarterback Jordan Travis ran in the game-winning touchdown with just 26 seconds left on the clock.

The Hurricanes had several major issues throughout the game, including three turnovers in the first quarter that helped the Seminoles to a 17-0 start.

But the more constant issue in the game was discipline. Miami was penalized a whopping 14 times for 105 yards. After the game, freshman linebacker Corey Flagg Jr. said the penalties weren’t a surprise.

“We were very undisciplined,” Flagg told reporters after the loss. “It’s habits that happen in practice. It’s not a shocker that it happened. Too many penalties. We beat ourselves.”

Flagg led the Hurricanes with 8 total tackles, i

ncluding 1 sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Miami was still in position to win the game late in the fourth quarter. The Seminoles converted a 4th and 14 in the game’s final minutes, moments before Travis ran it in for the game-winning score.

Miami is now eliminated from contention in the Coastal division. The Hurricanes are also now 5-5 this season and will need to beat Virginia Tech or Duke in the final two weeks in order to become bowl eligible.

The Hurricanes host the Hokies in Week 12.
