Cormani McClain’s decision to commit to Miami on Thursday night shocked the recruiting world.

It also angered the Florida fanbase, as the Gators were widely expected to land the 5-star cornerback over the Canes and Alabama. Instead, he chose Miami.

On Friday morning, McClain’s mother shared a message about the “respect and disrespect” that her son has been receiving since announcing his decision.

Her statement also includes shoutouts to coach Mario Cristobal and cornerbacks coach DeMarcus Van Dyke.

McClain is a massive pickup for Miami’s 2023 recruiting class. He’s the No. 2 overall player in the country, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 1 cornerback and the No. 1 player from the state of Florida.

Miami now finds itself in the top 10 of the national recruiting rankings. The Canes also still have room to add to this class, as they have commitments from just 18 prospects so far.

The Early Signing Period is in December.
