College football analyst Dan Mullen is backing the Hurricanes this season.

On Thursday afternoon, he released his predictions for the ACC’s 2022 season. He has Miami coming on top in the Coastal for the first time since 2017.

Miami and Pittsburgh are the two leading favorites to win the division. The Panthers won the Coastal in 2021 and went on to defeat Wake Forest in the ACC Championship game.

Perhaps the biggest reason for Miami’s optimism this year is quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. He returns to Coral Gables after leading Miami to a 5-1 record in its final 6 games a year ago. That stretch included ranked victories over NC State and Pitt.

Miami also brought in new head coach Mario Cristobal this offseason as well as a trio of highly-respected coordinators in Josh Gattis, Kevin Steele and Charlie Strong.

Miami and Pitt will face off against each other on Nov. 26 at Hard Rock Stadium. The Canes have won 4 straight games and 14 of the last 16 in this series.

Miami opens its season on Saturday afternoon vs. Bethune-Cookman.
