Emory Williams, Miami freshman QB, earns high praise from Tyler Van Dyke

Emory Williams seems to be making a good impression during his first few weeks at Miami.

On Tuesday morning, starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was asked about Williams’ progress during spring practice.

“He’s very smart, very accurate,” Van Dyke said. “He has a lot to learn still. I mean, he still should be in high school. But he’s going to be a good player and he’s picking up everything fast.”

Williams was a 3-star addition by the Canes in the class of 2023. He ranks as the No. 33 quarterback in the country for his recruiting class, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

He’s listed at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds. Williams attended Milton High School in Milton, Florida.

Miami’s QB future

Van Dyke is expected to be t

he starter at Miami in 2023, but Miami’s quarterback future is largely uncertain after this season. Jake Garcia, who was Miami’s primary backup a year ago, transferred to Missouri earlier this offseason.

Williams and sophomore Jacurri Brown seem to be the top internal candidates who could start for the Canes longterm. Brown is in line to be Miami’s backup this season after playing in 8 games a year ago.

Miami fans will get their 1st look at Williams during the Hurricanes’ spring game on April 14.
