Miami debuted at No. 17 in the preseason coaches poll, which was released on Monday afternoon.
Asked which team was most underrated based on that poll, ESPN’s Desmond Howard quickly identified Miami as a team that is too low at No. 17.

an Dyke and the tremendous coaching staff that Mario Cristobal has assembled for his first season on the job.
“I’m not saying that ‘The U’ is back. I’m not going out on that limb,” Howard said in a segment on ESPN on Monday. “But I like the quarterback, Tyler Van Dyke. He’s a big quarterback with a strong arm and tremendous accuracy.

7;t forget, look at the coaching staff. He brought in Jason Taylor. He has Hall-of-Famer Ed Reed. Charlie Strong, Kevin Steele … So they have guys there who can actually develop the young talent.”
Miami is 1 of 5 ACC Teams to be ranked in the top-25 and 1 of 2 from the ACC Coastal. Pittsburgh is also ranked, coming in at No. 16. North Carolina received votes, but didn’t quite make it into the top 25.
In addition to facing those other teams from the Coastal, Miami will play Clemson and Texas A&M this season. Despite the tough schedule, Howard thinks Miami has a chance to win the ACC.
“We all know the ACC is wide open so keep your eyes on the Hurricanes,” Howard added.
Miami opens the 2022 season with Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 3.
