ESPN's FPI predicts outcome in Miami-Virginia game
Miami is a slight favorite over Virginia on the road this weekend.
The Canes have lost four of their last five contests, including last week’s blowout home loss to Duke. Virginia has struggled for much of this season, but the Cavaliers picked up their first ACC win last week against Georgia Tech.
According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, these teams are evenly matched. FPI gives the Canes a 54.1% chance to win this game.
This is a must-win game for Miami, who is clinging to hope of bowl eligibility in Year 1 under Mario Cristobal. The Canes hired an impressive coaching staff this offseason, but have struggled to produce results on the field. Both sides of the ball have struggled at different points in 2022, but the offense is currently the greater concern.
Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is nursing an injury and may not be able to play this weekend vs. the Cavaliers. That would push Jake Garcia back into the starting role, just one week after he had a big hand in Miami’s eight turnovers vs. the Blue Devils.
Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
