ESPN’s FPI predicts outcome in North Carolina-Miami game

Miami will host North Carolina this weekend in a matchup that will have major implications on the ACC Coastal division title race.

The Hurricanes enter this game on a 2-game losing streak. However, ESPN’s Football Power Index believes they are the favorites in this contest.

FPI is giving Miami a 67.2% chance

to defeat the Tar Heels. That would mean Miami controls its destiny in the Coastal division.

North Carolina is already 1-0 in the ACC after defeating Virginia Tech last weekend. This will be Miami’s first ACC game of the season. The Coastal is wide open thanks to Pittsburgh’s Week 5 loss at home to Georgia Tech.

Miami is coming off a much-needed bye week following its loss to Middle Tennessee. The Canes struggled on both sides of the ball in that matchup.

North Carolina’s defense has been vulnerable for most of this season, but the Tar Heels were excellent on that end against the Hokies last weekend. Virginia Tech managed just 10 points and 3.9 yards per play in the blowout loss.

Kickoff is at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
