Miami is a heavy favorite in its Week 2 matchup vs. Southern Miss this weekend.

The Canes have a 96.3% chance of winning the game, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. Miami opened the week as a 27-point favorite over the Golden Eagles.

This will be Mario Cristobal’s first game as Miami’s head coach against FBS opposition. Last week, the Canes beat Bethune-Cookman 70-13 in Coral Gables.

In some ways, it could be an emotional game. Southern Miss is led by star running back Frank Gore Jr., who is, of course, the son of former Miami running back Frank Gore. Gore rushed for 178 yards against Liberty in Week 1.

This will also be Miami’s last test run before its marquee matchup vs. Texas A&M in Week 3. The Hurricanes are traveling to College Station for that highly-anticipated contest.

This will be the first-ever meeting between Miami and Southern Miss.

Kickoff is at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday.
