Former Miami RB Jaylan Knighton announces transfer destination
Former Miami running back Jaylan Knighton is moving west.
Knighton committed to SMU on Sunday morning, setting up a reunion with former Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. Knighton had his best collegiate season in 2021 with Lashlee calling the plays.
Here’s Knighton’s announcement:

Knighton battled injuries and inconsistency issues at times this season. He fell out of the rotation at one point during the season, but still finished second on the team in carries (78) and rushing yards (423).
Miami is expected to return Henry Parrish Jr. as its lead running back for 2023. Parrish rushed for a team-high 616 yards this season. He also scored 6 total touchdowns (4 rushing, 2 receiving).
It’s currently unclear if Miami will look to replace Knighton in the transfer portal or if it will rely on internal options. The Canes don’t currently have a running back committed in the class of 2023, but that could change in the coming weeks.
