Jim Larrañaga agrees to contract extension with Miami

Jim Larrañaga has agreed to a contract extension with Miami, the program announced on Tuesday.

Larrañaga’s new deal is a 1-year extension that will last through the 2026-27 season. He’s the winningest coach in program history and took Miami to its first-ever Final Four earlier this spring.

Larrañaga’s salary was not disclosed.

“I am excited to announce Jim’s contract extension through the 2026-27 season,” athletic director Dan Radakovich said in a release. “Jim led our program on a remarkable run to its first Final Four this year and we are looking forward to many more seasons of success with Jim in charge.”

Larrañaga, 73, just finished his 12th season at Miami. The Hurricanes have gone 55-19 over the past 2 seasons — a stretch that includes 1 Final Four and a pair of Elite Eight appearances.

“I love coaching at The U. This is an incredible academic institution with a Blue Ribbon faculty,” Larrañaga said in a statement. “I am grateful to have tremendous support from our administration. I want to thank President Frenk, Joe Echevarria, Rudy Fernandez and Dan Radakovich for their confidence in me. I am excited to continue working with the outstanding young men in our program.  We enjoyed our run this year and look forward to making more history in the future.”
