Miami’s blowout win over Boston College on Wednesday night was significant for multiple reasons.

First, it gave the Canes their 21st win of the year and likely means they’ve locked up a spot in the NCAA Tournament. It also marked career win No. 221 for coach Jim Larrañaga, which sets a new program record.

Larrañaga passes Bruce Hale, won won 220 games at Miami from 1954-67. Due to a much smaller NCAA Tournament field during those years, the Canes made the Big Dance just once under Hale — and lost in the first round.

Larrañaga is in his 11th season as Miami’s head coach. If Miami does make the Field of 64, it will be the Canes’ fifth trip to the Tournament under his leadership. No other Miami coach has sent this program to the Tournament more than three times.

Miami was a No. 10 seed in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology update, which was published on Tuesday morning. Other ACC programs like North Carolina, Wake Forest, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech are also on the bubble.

Miami plays at Syracuse on Saturday to close out the regular season.
