Jim Larranaga says ACC has been basketball’s top conference for ‘60 years or more,’ calls out disrespect

Jim Larranaga thinks that the ACC is basketball’s top conference. Considering how Miami has been playing during March Madness, it’s hard to argue with the Miami head coach.

On Friday, the No. 5 seeded Miami took down the No. 1 seeded Houston in epic upset fashion. The Hurricanes blasted the Cougars 89-75 to advance the hurricanes to the Elite 8 for the second time in as many seasons. Despite Houston entering the game as one of the top defensive teams in the country, Miami shot a staggering 52% from the floor to capture the win.

The Miami win over Houston was not just an upset, but record-setting as well. The Houston loss means that no No. 1 seed reached the Elite 8, the 1st time in NCAA Tournament history. Purdue and Kansas were both ousted last weekend while Alabama fell to San Diego State also on Friday night.

According to Larranaga, the win may have been big one, but it was hardly surprising. The long time head coach had praises for the ACC, saying “It’s been the best basketball league in the country for the last 60 years or more… I think there’s been a lot of disrespect for the league that it doesn’t deserve.”

If anyone can bring the league some respect, Miami could be the one with a championship win. The Hurricanes will face the No. 2 seeded Longhorns on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. ET.
