At his postgame press conference on Saturday night, Miami coach Mario Cristobal announced a pair of players who are serving 2-game suspensions to start the season.

Cristobal said receiver Jacolby George and safety Jalen Harrell were suspended for the opener vs. Bethune-Cookman and will also miss Miami’s Week 2 contest.

George was heavily rumored to be serving a suspension this week after he was spotted with Miami’s scout team during practice last week. Neither player appeared on Miami’s Week 1 depth chart.

Harrell is entering his third season in Coral Gables. Through two seasons, he has mostly contributed on special teams. He did have 3 tackles against Duke last season.

George is a potential breakout candidate at receiver for the Canes this season. As a freshman in 2021, he caught 7 passes for 183 yards and 1 touchdown. He also returned 13 punts for 142 yards.

Cristobal also said that true freshman receiver Isaiah Horton served a 1-game suspension this week.

Cristobal did not specify the reason for the suspensions.

Miami faces Southern Miss in Week 2.
