Mario Cristobal is not happy with Miami’s turnover-heavy performance in the first half against Duke.

The Canes turned it over a whopping four times in the first half, leading to 10 points for the Blue Devils. That’s the difference in the game so far as Duke led 17-7 at the half.

Three of the turnovers came on fumbles. Key’Shawn Smith coughed it up on a kickoff return, resulting in a Duke TD. Jaylan Knighton and Tyler Van Dyke also lost fumbles in the first half. Jake Garcia threw an interception on Miami’s final offensive play in the first half.

During his halftime interview Cristobal addressed the issues.

“You turn the ball over like we did, there’s no excuse for that,” Cristobal said. “It’s as simple as that. You try to coach it. It’s not showing up. Turn it over and it leads to their points.”

A loss in this game would be devastating for the Canes’ chances in the Coastal division. Miami entered this game trailing North Carolina by 1.5 games.

Miami was a 10-point home favorite over the Blue Devils.
