Miami’s loss to Pitt on Saturday night means the Hurricanes finish this season with a 5-7 record — one win shy of bowl eligibility.
It’s an extremely disappointing result for a program that significantly increased investment into the football program after last season. Miami entered the year as one of the favorites to win the Coastal division title.
Instead, coach Mario Cristobal will have to pick up the pieces of a failed season in Coral Gables. After the loss to the Panthers, he was asked about evaluating Miami’s assistant coaches.
He shed some light — but didn’t divulge many details — on what that evaluation process will look like.
Miami’s offense was led by Josh Gattis this season. Gattis joined the program after winning the Broyles Award last season at Michigan. The defense was led b
y a pair of former head coaches and accomplished defensive coordinators: Kevin Steele and Charlie Strong.
Despite the lack of success on the field this season, Miami has recruited well this cycle. The Canes currently have a top 10 class nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
Still, there will be plenty of questions about Miami’s future after the Canes’ 5-7 season. They failed to win a home game in October or November this season.
Miami will likely be active in the transfer portal this offseason, which officially opens on Dec. 5.
