Mario Cristobal hopes to see Miami running back Don Chaney Jr. return to the team before the end of the season.

Chaney suffered an injury in the offseason and he has not played this season. If Chaney is able to recover, he might be able to play within the next 2 months.

Chaney is expected to return in 6 to 8 weeks. The ideal return for Chaney would be 6 weeks because that would set a return date in early November. Miami’s first game in November is against Florida State on Nov. 5.

The timeline for a return could have Chaney return to action against Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, or Pitt.

The games against Georgia Tech and Clemson are consecutive road games on Nov. 12 and Nov. 19. Miami closes out the regular season against Pittsburgh. Cristobal and his staff will have a decision to make on when Chaney can play again for the Hurricanes.

Chaney, a third-year redshirt freshman, has not played since Week 2 in 2021. If he is able to come back in 2022, it will be more than 1 year since he last played in a game. The Hurricanes are looking for consistency out of the running backs and Chaney would help the group.

Miami will look to bounce back from last week’s loss against Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
