Mark Fletcher Jr. is in the midst of an excellent collegiate debut.

The true freshman scored a touchdown in the 2nd half of Miami’s season-opener on Friday night. His score gave the Canes a 24-3 lead in the quarterback over Miami of Ohio.

Here’s a replay of Fletcher’s first score:

Fletcher was listed as a co-starter along with 3 other players at running back on Miami’s pre-game depth chart. Through 3 quarters, Fletcher has split time with Henry Parrish and Ajay Allen.

Fletcher was a major recruiting win for the Canes in the class of 2023. He was the No. 142 overall player and the No. 7 running back in the country for that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Fletcher was an Ohio State commit until November of 2022.

Fletcher was not on the only true freshman to see extended action for the Canes on Friday. Right tackle Francis Mauigoa also got the start in his collegiate debut. Miami punter Dylan Joyce also won the starting job as a true freshman and performed well on Friday night.

A local product, Fletcher attended American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale.
