Miami defeated Iowa State 70-56 on Friday night to secure its first Elite Eight appearance in program history.

The Hurricanes controlled the game for virtually the entire second half. Senior guard Kameron McGusty led the way with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

McGusty has been Miami’s catalyst all season, but this was perhaps the most important game of his (lengthy) career. He went 10-for-18 from the floor and made 4-of-7 3-point attempts.

Jordan Miller was also a major part of this win. He scored 16 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting while playing tough defense. Charlie Moore led the team with 9 assists.

Miami does have a difficult draw in the Elite Eight — No. 1-seeded Kansas. The Jayhawks haven’t looked vulnerable yet in the NCAA Tournament. They beat No. 4-seeded Providence 65-61 earlier in the day on Friday.

It’s worth noting that Moore is a former Kansas guard. He spent two years in Lawrence before transferring to DePaul for more playing time.

Tipoff is at 2:20 p.m. ET on Sunday.
