Miami scored a major — and shocking — recruiting win over Florida on Thursday night.

5-star cornerback Cormani McClain picked the Hurricanes, despite a wide expectation that he would end up in the Gators’ 2023 recruiting class.

Shortly after the commitment was made, Miami cornerbacks coach DeMarcus Van Dyke tweeted a photo of himself holding a live gator:

It’s a huge pickup for Miami, as the Canes now have a top 10 class nationally and commitments from two 5-star prospects. 5-star offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa is also committed to Miami.

McClain is the No. 2 overall player in the country for the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He attends Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Fla.

McClain will have a chance to be an immediate impact player for Miami in 2023. Miami’s cornerbacks have been inconsistent at times this season, as the Canes rank No. 13 in the ACC in passer efficiency rating allowed.

The Early Signing Period begins in December.
