Miami closing in on new DB coach hire, per report

Miami is expected to hire Marshall’s Chevis Jackson as its next defensive backs coach, according to a report.

That’s per 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Gaby Urrutia. The report says that Miami offered Jackson the job on Saturday night. It also notes that Jackson previously worked under current Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry while they were at Marshall.

As a player, Jackson starred at LSU and had a multi-year NFL career before moving on to coaching. He was a member of LSU’s 2007 national championship team and earned first-team all-SEC honors for his efforts that season.

As a coach, Jackson has worked at programs such as Marshall, Kansas and Ball State as a defensive backs coach. He began his career as a graduate assistant at S

outh Alabama and then LSU.

Guidry hired Jackson at Marshall before the 2022 campaign when he was serving as the program’s defensive coordinator. Jackson would be replacing Jahmile Addae, who left the program this offseason for the cornerbacks coach job with the Buffalo Bills.

Miami is hoping to take a big step forward next season in Year 3 under Mario Cristobal. The Hurricanes have brought in numerous top transfers this offseason and are expected to be a top contender in the ACC in 2024.
