Miami coach Mario Cristobal gives injury update as fall camp begins
Miami’s preseason media day was on Tuesday afternoon, and coach Mario Cristobal covered a lot of ground.
Perhaps the most relevant news of the day was injury updates to a pair of offensive linemen.
Cristobal, in ongoing presser, said Zion Nelson should be back in time for season and OL Ryan Rodriguez out for a while. Team healthy otherwise

Star left tackle Zion Nelson will miss at least most of fall camp — and perhaps the early part of the regular season — after undergoing minor knee surgery in early July.
Nelson is was named to the ACC’s preseason all-conference team and is a 3-year starter for the Canes at left tackle. If he misses game time, it would be a significant loss.
Reserve offensive lineman Ryan Rodriguez is expected to miss a big chunk of the season, Cristobal said. Rodriguez is a redshirt freshman who played in 1 game last season.
The good news for the Canes is they are otherwise completely healthy going into fall camp, according to Cristobal. Miami is the favorite to win the ACC Coastal this season and is looking for its first 10+ win season since 2017.
Miami opens the 2022 season with Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 3.
