Miami defensive lineman reportedly transferring away after one season with Hurricanes

Miami defensive lineman Jamil Burroughs is leaving the program after one season.

According to multiple reports, Burroughs has entered his name into the transfer portal. On3’s Pete Nakos was the first to report the move. Burroughs did not play in a game for Miami during his time in Coral Gables.

A former 4-star recruit, Burroughs signed with Alabama out of the 2020 class. He was the 34th-ranked defensive tackle prospect in the country after playing his prep ball at Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern. Georgia offered him a scholarship, as did other major programs like Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Tennessee.

He appeared in six games as a true freshman defender for the Crimson Tide in 2020. A year later, he saw a reduced role and made just three appearances.

In 2022, he played in 11 games and saw the most extensive action on the defensive side of the ball of his career.

Burroughs left Alabama in late June 2023 after an altercation with Crimson Tide director of player development Josh Chapman, according to Rivals

. He signed at Miami two months later — a late addition to the program right before the start of the season.

The 6-foot-3 defensive lineman has 15 career tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, and 15 quarterback pressures in 20 appearances throughout his career.
