Miami picked up a commitment from Maryland defensive lineman transfer Darrell Jackson on Tuesday evening.
Here’s Jackson’s announcement:
Jackson is potentially going to be a major contributor on Miami’s defensive line this season. Last year as a true freshman at Maryland, he recorded 22 total tackles.
Listed at 6-foot-6, 274 pounds, Jackson has the frame to have a bigger impact on Miami’s defensive line.
He was the No. 90 overall defensive lineman in the country for the class of 2021, according to 247Sports Composite rankings
. He attended Gadsden County High School in Havana, Florida.
Jackson is Miami’s 11th addition out of the transfer portal this offseason, and the 7th on the d
efensive side of the ball. The Hurricanes have also added impact transfers like Jake Lichtenstein (USC), Daryl Porter (West Virginia), Mitchell Agude (UCLA) and Akheem Mesidor (West Virginia) on the defensive side of the ball.
Miami’s defense is likely to be heavily influenced some or all of these transfers. Co-defensive coordinators Kevin Steele and Charlie Strong are hoping to show plenty of improvement in Year 1 on the job.
Miami opens the 2022 season against Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 3.
