Miami flips 5-star DL, former Ohio State commit
Miami secured a huge flip in the form of 5-star defensive lineman Justin Scott away from Ohio State on Wednesday.
Scott is the No. 3 DL in the 2024 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite. He hails from Chicago (Ill.) St. Ignatius and is the No. 1 prospect in the state.
Scott had been committed to Ohio State since July. What stood out to Scott during the recruiting process was how consistent Miami was.
“From the first time they offered me to now, they never changed,” said Scott.

The Hurricanes picked up their 1st 5-star commit after Scott verbally pledged to the program. Their highest ranked commit before then was 4-star athlete Zaquan Patterson out of Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Prep.
A host of teams from around the country were competing for Scott’s commitment, including Georgia, Michigan and Alabama.
Scott is a huge get for Mario Cristobal’s staff. UM now has 27 verbal commitments in a 2024 class which ranks No. 5 nationally on the Composite. Hurricanes fans can get a preview of what Scott brings to Coral Gables by checking out highlights from his junior season, below, via Hudl:
