Miami has identified its next defensive coordinator, per report

Miami has identified its next defensive coordinator, according to a report.

That’s per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who says that Miami is expected to hire Tulane’s Lance Guidry for the role. Guidry would replace Kevin Steele, who took the same position at Alabama earlier this week.

Guidry, 51, spent just 3 weeks as Tulane’s DC. He was hired from Marshall earlier this offseason.

The Thundering Herd had an excellent defense in 2022. Marshall ranked No. 8 nationally in defensive SP+ this season. That résumé included an upset win over Notre Dame back in September.

M

arshall yielded just 4.56 yards per play this season, which ranked No. 3 nationally. Marshall finished the season with a 9-4 record in 2022.

Prior to joining Marshall, Guidry had stints as an assistant coach at Florida Atlantic and Southeastern Louisiana. He was also the head coach at McNeese State from 2016-18.

Miami will be looking to take a big step forward defensively in 2023.
