Miami is a slight favorite in Sweet 16 matchup vs. Iowa State
Miami will take on Iowa State this weekend in one of the most unlikely Sweet 16 matchups of this year’s NCAA Tournament.
The Hurricanes are 2.5-point favorites in that matchup, according to the line at DraftKings. The total has been set at 133.5.
Like Miami, Iowa State needed to overcome a difficult path to make the Sweet 16. However, it wasn’t quite as daunting.
The Cyclones upset LSU shortly after it had fired coach Will Wade. In the second round, Iowa State drew a Wisconsin team that struggled down the stretch of the season. Badgers star guard Johnny Davis has battled an ankle injury in recent weeks, too.
Meanwhile, Miami was tasked with taking down a full-strength USC team in round 1 and then a No. 2-seeded Auburn squad that has multiple potential lottery picks in Jabari Smith Jr. and Walker Kessler.
The Tigers proved to be no match for an experienced Miami team — the Hurricanes nearly set the record for largest margin of victory for a No. 10 seed vs. a No. 2 seed.
Miami is hoping that experience — led by sixth-year seniors Charlie Moore and Kameron McGusty — can get it past Iowa State. The Hurricanes have never made it past the Sweet 16 in program history.
KenPom is projecting a 68-67 victory for Iowa State.
Tipoff is at approximately 10 p.m. ET on Friday.
