Miami produced a pair of freshmen All-Americans during the 2023 season.

Both Rueben Bain and Francis Mauigoa were named freshmen All-Americans by the FWAA for their efforts this past season. Miami acknowledged the accomplishment on Tuesday:

Bain quickly became one of the top pass rushers in the ACC. He recorded 12.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks this past season as a true freshman. After dealing with multiple injuries to top pass rushers, Miami needed Bain to step up and be a contributor from Day 1 — and he delivered.

Bain was one of the top names on Miami’s scouting report for opposing coaches as they began to prep for the Canes, especially late in the year. Before facing Miami in November, NC State coach Dave Doeren raved about Bain while speaking with reporters:

“Their defense is led by their defensive line,” Doeren said. “They’ve got a freshman defensive lineman who is one of the best freshman D-Linemen I’ve ever seen. He’s really playing well. A guy that you like watching, but wish he was not on their sideline. But it’s going to be a great opportunity to play against another great defensive lineman.”

Mauigoa was also plug-and-play as a true freshman after arriving on campus as a 5-star prospect. He was Miami’s starting right tackle all season long and was a big reason why Miami took a big step forward up front in 2023.

Both Bain and Mauigoa are expected to be back with the Canes next season and lead Miami as it hopes to contend for the ACC title.
