Miami lands major transfer commitment from UCLA linebacker

Miami picked up another huge addition in the transfer portal on Friday evening.

The Hurricanes earned a commitment from UCLA transfer linebacker Caleb Johnson. Here’s his announcement:

Johnson played the last 2 seasons for the Bruins. He totaled 89 tackles, 7 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks over that span. He also intercepted 1 passes and recovered 1 fumble.

Johnson arrived at UCLA via Fullerton Community College. He was the No. 45 overall JUCO player nationally in the class of 2020, per 247Sports Composite rankings

.

He joins fellow ex-Bruin Mitchell Agude in choosing Miami. Agude transferred to Miami earlier this offseason. He welcomed Johnson into the fold on Friday night:

Miami has now added 5 Power 5 defensive starters via the transfer portal this offseason. Johnson joins Agude, West Virginia DL Akheem Mesidor, West Virginia DB Daryl Porter and USC DL Jake Lichtenstein.

Those additions should help the Hurricanes quickly rebuild their defense in 2022. Co-defensive coordinators Kevin Steele and Charlie Strong have been tasked with fixing a defense that finished near the middle of the ACC last season.
