Miami will be down a defensive lineman for the rest of the season as redshirt freshman DL Quentin Williams has entered the transfer portal.

Williams acknowledged the decision on Tuesday night.

Williams was a member of Miami’s 2020 recruiting class. He was the No. 674 overall player and the No. 31 defensive end in that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

He’s originally from Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s currently unclear where he intends to transfer next.

Coach Manny Diaz commented on his decision Wednesday morning.

“It’s tough because you want to develop guys, you want to see them improve and we may not be very old next year,” Diaz said. “Just have to adapt.”

Williams had not played yet this season for the Hurricanes. He played in two games as a true freshman, recording 3 total tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.

The Hurricanes are still without a defensive line commitment for the class of 2022. Their class currently has just eight commitments and is ranked No. 59 nationally and No. 12 in the ACC, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Miami hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday.
