Miami OC rumors: Hurricanes linked to offensive coordinator candidate with NFL experience
Miami OC rumors are heating up.
According to a report from FootballScoop’s John Brice, Doug Nussmeier has emerged as a “strong candidate” to replace Josh Gattis as the Canes’ offensive coordinator.
Nussmeier and Mario Cristobal worked together at Alabama in 2023. More recently, Nussmeier was an assistant coach for the Dallas Cowboys. He was the Cowboys’ TE coach in 2018-19 and the QB coach from 2020-22.
Prior to joining Dallas, Nussmeier amassed a lot of experience as an offensive coordinator at the collegiate level. He served as the OC at Florida, Michigan, Alabama, Washington and Fresno State from 2008-17.
His recruiting ties in Florida that he made while working for the Gators and Crimson Tide could also help his candidacy for this job.
Miami is looking to take a big step forward on offense in 2023. Last season under Gattis, the Canes ranked 9th in the ACC in yards per play (5.34). They finished in the bottom half of the conference in both passing and rushing yardage.
