Miami offensive coordinator Josh Gattis linked to vacant head coaching job

Miami offensive coordinator Josh Gattis has been linked to Georgia Tech’s head coaching vacancy.

Georgia Tech fired head coach Geoff Collins after the team’s 27-10 loss to UCF on Saturday. Georgia Tech went 1-3 through 4 games in 2022 and will search for a new head coach.

Gattis, who is in his 1st season as Miami’s offensive coordinator, could be in line for his 1st job as a head coach. ESPN college football writer Adam Rittenberg wrote about potential candidates to replace Collins

at Georgia Tech. He e

xplained why Gattis could be a fit for the Yellow Jackets.

“He won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach in 2021 and has interviewed for several Power 5 jobs. Gattis, 38, is a North Carolina native who has made stops at Vanderbilt and Alabama, and he has recruited the Southeast throughout his career. He held recruiting coordinator titles under James Franklin at both Vanderbilt and Penn State, and last year helped Michigan to its first CFP appearance and first outright Big Ten title since 2003. Miami’s shaky start could hurt his chances.”

Rittenberg referenced Miami’s rough start to the 2022 season. In Week 4, the Hurricanes suffered a 45-31 loss at home to Middle Tennessee. The team’s difficult start could complicate Gattis’ candidacy.

Miami will be off in Week 4 and will return against North Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 8.
