By all accounts, Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is having an impressive offseason.

Van Dyke proved to be a difference-maker for the Hurricanes last season after he took over for an inured D’Eriq King. He threw for 300+ yards and 3+ touchdowns in Miami’s final 6 games of the season.

But going into 2022, expectations are high at Miami. The Canes return a lot of talent and have new head coach Mario Cristobal running the show.

According to Van Dyke’s teammates, the sophomore quarterback has made another leap this offseason. Receiver Key’Shawn Smith told reporters on Thursday that Van Dyke has been making “NFL-type” throws this spring.

Miami is expected to compete for the ACC crown this season. In addition to returning players like Van Dyke and tight end Will Mallory, the Hurricanes have also been aggressive in the transfer portal. Several of those additions will be especially impactful on the defensive side of the ball, where Miami struggled last season.

The Canes will get a huge test on Sept. 17 when it travels to College Station to play Texas A&M.

Miami’s spring game is on April 16.
