Miami recruit reaffirms commitment to Canes after blowout loss to Duke

A brutal loss for Miami didn’t damper the excitement from one of its prized recruits in the Class of 2023.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard safety Antione Jackson reaffirmed his commitment to Miami after the 45-21 loss against Duke.

“You either with me or you not,” Jackson wrote. “2023 it’s happening.”

 

The 4-star recruit is regarded by the 247Sports Composite as the nation’s No. 10 safety and 24th-best prospect from Florida. Jackson committed to Miami over offers from programs such as Georgia, Alabama, and Auburn.

Miami currently has the nation’s No. 11 ranked group for the Class of 2023, according to 247Sports. Miami’s most heralded commit so far is 5-star IMG Academy offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa.

Miami committed eight turnovers against Duke, the most from a Power 5 t

eam in a conference matchup dating back to 2009.

Duke won by 24 points despite only having 9 more total yards than Miami. Miami also lost despite having four more first down conversions. Duke held Miami to 48 rushing yards on 31 attempts.

The loss snapped Miami’s two-game winning streak against Duke. This was Duke’s first victory at Miami since 2018.

Next up for Miami is a road contest at Virginia on Oct. 29. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPN3.
