Miami reportedly losing key personnel staffer to NFL front office

Miami general manager Alonzo Highsmith is expected to leave the program for a job with the New England Patriots, according to a report.

That’s per a report from The Athletic, which notes that Highsmith is set to join the Patriots’ front office. Highsmith, a former Miami player, j

oined the Canes as general manager ahead of the 2022 season.

Highsmith had a big impact on Miami in his 2 years with the program. Per The Athletic’s Manny Navarro, Highsmith worked closely with coach Mario Cristobal to help rebuild Miami’s culture and also had a hand in evaluating players in the transfer portal and in high school recruiting classes.

Miami has certainly had success in accumulating top talent over the past couple of years. This cycle, Miami landed the No. 4 recruiting class in the country from the high school school ranks, per 247Sports C

omposite rankings. The class includes 3 5-star prospects and 7 players who are ranked in the top-100.

Miami’s transfer portal class is led by former Washington State quarterback Cam Ward, who is well-regarded as one of the top transfer quarterbacks on the market this offseason. The Hurricanes have brought in 9 transfers so far this offseason.

Highsmith joined Miami in 2022 after a stint in the Seattle Seahawks’ front office. As a player, Highsmith was a member of Miami’s 1983 national championship team and was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
