Miami reportedly losing QB to NCAA transfer portal

Miami had a disappointing 2022 season, but the Hurricanes have some interesting pieces coming back in 2023, including QB Tyler Van Dyke.

That means that the Hurricanes’ QB room is losing some depth, though.

On Tuesday afternoon, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that backup QB Jake Garcia had decided to enter the transfer portal to search for immediate playing time:

Garcia started Miami’s OT win over Virginia during the 2022 season, throwing for 125 yards. On the season, Garcia had a total of 5 touchdown passes and 4 interceptions.

Where will he end up next? As Thamel mentions, Garcia was once committed to USC. He should have plenty of opportunities to compete for a starting job somewhere in the FBS ranks in 2023.
