Miami offensive tackle Zion Nelson will not play for the Hurricanes in Week 1.

That’s according to reports from multiple beat writers who are on the ground in Coral Gables.

Nelson had minor knee surgery in the offseason and was questionable to play in this game.

Nelson was listed as a co-starter at left tackle alongside John Campbell in Miami’s pregame depth chart. Campbell has received praise from his coaching staff during the run-up to this game.

This injury is not expected to keep Nelson out longterm. He returned to practice this week and coach Mario Cristobal thought he might have a chance to play.

Barring any setbacks, it’s likely Nelson will make his season debut in Week 2 against Southern Miss. Miami also has a pivotal matchup with Texas A&M on the horizon in Week 3.

Miami and Bethune-Cookman kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET.
