Miami dropped more than 10 spots in the latest CBS Sports 131 heading into Week 9.

Before this week, Miami was ranked as the No. 61 ranked team in the power rankings. After last week’s 45-21 loss to Duke, Miami fell down 12 spots to No. 73. Miami was wedged between No. 72 Memphis and No. 74 Rutgers on the list.

The loss to Duke was a major setback for Miami. The offense committed 8 total turnovers and lost quarterback Tyler Van Dyke to an injury. When Van Dyke left the game, the game went downhill for the Hurricanes. Backup quarterback Jake Garcia threw 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Duke recovered 5 fumbles from Miami.

Following a 2-0 start to the season, Miami lost 4 out of the last 5 games. Miami was on a 3-game losing streak with losses to Texas A&M, Middle Tennessee, and North Carolina. That losing streak was snapped in Week 7 against Virginia Tech.

Mario Cristobal has struggled in his 1st season as Miami’s head coach. When Cristobal took over the program, Miami had national expectations to compete for an ACC Championship in 2022. Miami has not lived up to the expectations and the team has a losing record with 5 games remaining in the regular season.

Miami will look to get a road win over Virginia on Saturday.
