Miami TE Will Mallory announces plan to return for 2022 season

Miami’s 2021 season isn’t over yet, but tight end Will Mallory has already made a decision for the 2022 campaign.

He’ll be back with the Hurricanes for his senior season. Mallory made that announcement on Wednesday afternoon while speaking with reporters.

The junior tight e

nd likely would have received interest from NFL teams this offseason. He’s been a consistent weapon for the Hurricanes this season, already posting 19 catches for 219 yards and 2 TD’s.

Next season will be Mallory’s fifth year of eligibility. Athletes in all sports were granted a waiver for 2020 due to the pandemic.

Mallory has scored at least one touchdown in all four of his seasons with the Hurricanes.

Optimism for the future is high right now in Miami as the Hurricanes are riding a three-game winning streak. But more than that, freshman quarterback T

yler Van Dyke has emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC. He has 1,140 passing yards in his last three games, which include two wins over ranked teams.

With plays like Van Dyke and running back Jaylan Knighton expected to return next season, the Hurricanes could have one of their best offenses in years.

Miami still has a chance to win the ACC in 2021. The Hurricanes would need to win out and then get favorable results from Pitt and Virginia down the stretch.

Miami faces Florida State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
